Tottenham have joined the race to sign Marseille winger Florian Thauvin this summer, according to reports in France.

Thauvin spent a short time at Newcastle United back in 2015, only to be loaned back to Marseille following a disappointing spell in the north east.

However, he has since emerged as one of the best players in Ligue 1 – Thauvin scored 26 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions in 2017/18, averaging a goal every other game.

The 25-year-old played a key part as Marseille reached the Europa League final, although the French side fell at the final hurdle, losing to Atletico Madrid in the final.

Now, according to French outlet RMC (via Get French Football News), Thauvin could be a summer transfer target for Spurs.

Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in the Frenchman, who is set to receive a wage rise if he decides to stay in Marseille and sign a contract extension.

Tottenham are said to be keen on recruiting another attacker this summer – they have been linked with Wilfried Zaha and Anthony Martial.

Thauvin seems unlikely as he is unable to play through the middle, which is what Mauricio Pochettino apparently wants from a new recruit.
