Tottenham are keen to rival Chelsea in the race to sign Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles, according to the London Evening Standard.
Lascelles has reportedly been a target for Chelsea since February, but the Standard believes Spurs will battle their London rivals for the 24-year-old defender.
After being handed a new five-year contract last month, Mauricio Pochettino has apparently been promised increased transfer funds to overhaul his squad this summer.
Tottenham will likely be in need of a centre-back for the new season as Toby Alderweireld is expected to leave the club after failing to agree terms on a new contract.
Ajax teenager Matthijs de Ligt had been mooted as a potential replacement for Alderweireld, but reports suggest Spurs are no longer interested in the Netherlands international.
As a result, there is a chance Pochettino will turn to Lascelles.
The Standard claims Lascelles is happy to stay at St James’ Park, although Everton look set to test Newcastle’s resolve with a £30 million bid.
However, the Magpies will hold out for £45 million as they do not want to lose one of their best players.
That means Tottenham will probably have to break their transfer record if they want to sign Lascelles this summer.
