Tottenham’s chances of signing Rafinha have been boosted by Mauricio Pochettino’s friendship with Barcelona’s new sporting director Ramon Planes, according to reports in Spain.

Earlier this week, reports emerged linking Spurs with a move for Barcelona midfielder Rafinha.

The 25-year-old, who is the brother of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, spent the second half of the 2017/18 season on loan at Inter Milan, who reportedly have an option to sign him permanently for €35 million (£30.8m).

During his short time at Inter, Rafinha made 16 appearances and scored two goals as the Italian giants qualified for next season’s Champions League.

It is believed Inter are trying to negotiate a lower price than the fee previously agreed with Barcelona, who are said to be unhappy with the Serie A club.

As a result, there is a chance Rafinha could move elsewhere his summer, and Tottenham are believed to hold an interest in the 25-year-old.

Now, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo is claiming Pochettino’s friendship with Planes could aid Spurs’ chances of signing Rafinha.

The Brazilian can play in central midfield and further forward, a degree of versatility Pochettino will surely appreciate.
