Tottenham are tracking Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino, according to reports in Italy.

Vecino joined Inter from Fiorentina last summer and made 31 appearances across all competitions in his first season at the San Siro, scoring three goals.

The 26-year-old is currently with the Uruguay squad at the World Cup in Russia – he played 87 minutes in the 1-0 victory over Egypt on the second day of the tournament.

According to Italian outlet TuttoSport, Spurs are keen on Vecino but face competition from Chelsea and Everton.

Chelsea are expected to make a move for the midfielder if they manage to appoint Maurizio Sarri, who wanted to sign Vecino during his time as Napoli boss.

Inter are believed to be interested in Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele, which could have an effect on Vecino’s future destination.

Earlier this week, Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio was linked with a move in the other direction as part a deal for Dembele.

Vecino would make more sense than D’Ambrosio in that regard as he plays in the same position as Dembele, and Spurs will need a replacement for the Belgian.

Whether Tottenham are definitely interested in Vecino remains to be seen.
