Barcelona are considering a move for Russian midfielder Aleksandr Golovin, which could bring their pursuit of Christian Eriksen to an end, according to football.london.

The La Liga champions were heavily linked with a move for Eriksen last summer when a deal for Philippe Coutinho looked difficult.

Instead, they waited until January to sign Coutinho from Liverpool and Eriksen stayed at Tottenham.

However, reports in Spain have continued to link Barcelona with the Danish midfielder, who has impressed at the World Cup so far with a goal and and an assist.

But according to football.london, Barcelona have been keeping track of CSKA Moscow playmaker Golovin, who has also shone at the World Cup.

It is believed Golovin has been identified as a potential alternative to Eriksen and will be much cheaper than the Spurs star.

Indeed, Golovin is apparently valued at just £22 million, while Tottenham value Eriksen at close to the £146 million Barcelona paid Liverpool for Coutinho.

As a result, Barcelona are likely to end their immediate interest in Eriksen if they sign Golovin this summer. Keep an eye on this one.

  1. Was it ever a reality or just an aspiration of journalists and coaches in Denmark. We value and respect Eriksen and would not sell him to Barca.

  2. To compare Golovin to Erikson is ignorant and insulting. Golovin is a donkey, Erickson a pure thoroughbred.
This blogger really does not understand this game at all otherwise he would pick someone better as a competitor to Erickson. Also there was never any Barcelona chase they cannot afford to splash out this kind of cash as they are perilously close to breaking fair play rules which will limit their purchases this summer unless they offload some really valuable tallent which is unlikely.

    • Michael, i actually want to see Golovin in Spurs! He is always constantly running and is a perfect player for spurs, better than Dier!
