Boca Juniors midfielder Wilmar Barrios has “everything arranged” to join Tottenham this summer, according to reports in Argentina.
Barrios made himself familiar with English football fans during Tuesday’s Round of 16 clash at the World Cup, somehow escaping a red card after appearing to headbutt Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson.
Earlier this summer Spurs emerged as potential candidates to sign Barrios, who is expected to leave Boca Juniors in the current transfer window.
According to Argentinian outlet El Sol, the 24-year-old has told the Boca hierarchy he has played his last game for the club and will seek an exit in the coming weeks.
It is also believed Barrios informed Boca he has “everything arranged” to join Tottenham.
It is unclear whether talks between Spurs and Boca have taken place or if personal terms have been agreed with Barrios.
What’s more, there are obvious question marks over the reliability of El Sol’s story – no reliable UK-based publications have reported similar yet.
Tottenham are likely to pursue a new central midfielder this summer with Mousa Dembele expected to leave the club.
Whether Barrios is a genuine target remains to be seen.
