Tottenham are interested in signing Getafe defender Djene Dakonam, according to French outlet Foot Mercato.

Dakonam started 36 games in Spain last season after joining Getafe from Belgian side Sint-Truidense in the summer of 2017.

The 26-year-old has also been linked with Atletico Madrid, while West Ham are also believed to hold an interest.

Spurs are likely to be in need of a new centre-back this summer with Toby Alderweireld expected to leave the club – he is thought to be attracting the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, United are now being linked with Leicester City star Harry Maguire, meaning they may have moved on from Alderweireld.

That  opens up the possibility of the Belgian sticking around beyond the summer transfer window. If that’s the case, do Tottenham really need a new centre-back?

Meanwhile, Cameron Carter-Vickers has voiced his intention to stay and fight for his place in the first-team, while Juan Foyth will also be eager for more minutes this term.

Dakonam could cost as much as £31 million – it’s unlikely Spurs will pay that kind of fee for a centre-back if Alderweireld stays.

  1. Agree with you Ian Flack the only concern I have with Mina is he has got to stop putting his defence in peril when he tackles or swings his arms about or giving away dangerous free kicks around the box , but I put my faith in MP to sort him out he could be a very commanding figure in the defence if he listens to MP .
