Moussa Sissoko has hinted he will stay at Tottenham beyond the summer transfer window.
The midfielder has endured a difficult two years at Spurs so far following his £30 million move from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016.
Having struggled to nail down a place in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line-up, it seemed inevitable Sissoko would seek an exit this summer.
However, the 28-year-old has suggested he is willing to spend another season fighting for his place in the team.
“My first season here wasn’t easy,” Sissoko said (via the London Evening Standard). “I came late, I didn’t have pre-season.
“But last year I played a lot of games and I did well, like the team. This year is going to be the same. I will try to play more and to do better and better.”
Sissoko may be needed for Tottenham’s Premier League opener at Newcastle United in two weeks time.
That’s because Spurs are desperately short in midfield with Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele yet to return after their World Cup exploits.
Victor Wanyama has joined Harry Winks and Josh Onomah on the injury list, meaning Sissoko has a chance of starting against his former side on August 11th.
His selection won’t be welcomed by the majority of Tottenham fans, but Pochettino may be given no other choice.

Sissoko is a solid utility midfielder and plays regularly for Spurs. There is a good chance he would be a starter even if others were available. I am always amazed at the boo-birds who trash players who contribute to our team. Sissoko may not be a star but he is a solid member of the 28 who is ready to play when called upon. I am even more flabbergasted by hacks who claim to be sports writers but who base their articles on the comments of a few discontented tweeters. Very unprofessional reporting.

Sissoko is like the Indian cricketer, Ravi Shastri. A utility player who could open in tests and learnt to accelerate in one daters, with a nagging flattish left arm orthodox and a shrewd cricket brain, he represented the world of an average talent maximising potential by dint of hard work. Yet he never had a good chemistry with the Indian cricket fans, volatile at the best of times, and was booed with “Hai Hai Shastri” chants for no reason at all, even when he did well. “Lord Sissoo” has become similarly a player who fans love to pull down. It reflects both the irrational part of fickle fan love and the power of a trend going viral. Certainly Sissoko is a useful, versatile player who plus in and does his job. Thank god that Poch is not a politician who has to cater to a constituency of social media faux Spur fans.
Where does he get this character assassnation information from. Sissisko was a more than solid performer for Spurs last year. He rarely mislaid a pass and often was the catalyst for an attack from defence.

Whilst I would never knock Sissoko’s commitment, energy, effort and versatility, he was inept in performance pretty much every time he set foot on the pitch. Dribbling down blind alleys, closing off our attacking play when he should be opening it up, miscontrolling, taking too many touches, and his field of vision has a radius of about 1 foot around his own body.
Useful bench warmer, or hard working midfielder for a lower Prem team, but for Spurs….. ..please open your eyes!
thank you Ryan Mills, I was just about to say I don’t think any of these fans watch the games they must just be watching MOTD, because sissoko is a poor footballer has no technical ability at all he really should be at a bottom end club or even championship. no way is he good enough for Tottenham I would rather play Timothy atuba in the middle of the park hahaha. but seriously he is just wasting space and pay packet we could have someone way better, he is like a kid down the park who wants to play but is actually pretty shit but his mates around him stay positive and try get him in the game, pretty much our staff and coach but we can all see his is crap.
Sissoko won’t get a game against Newcastle because Wanyama is injured but because he deserves to be selected, as he was selected by Pochettino many times last season. He’s a strong, fast player.
