Tottenham want Manchester United to offer £55 million or include Anthony Martial in any deal that would see Toby Alderweireld head to Old Trafford, according to the Independent.

Alderweireld is expected to leave Spurs this summer after failing to agree terms on a new contract earlier this year.

However, Tottenham have the option to extend his contract by 12 months until 2020, although doing so would trigger a clause that would allow the defender to leave for just £25 million next summer.

As a result, Spurs are said to be a eager to sell Alderweireld this summer – Manchester United have been linked for some time.

The Independent claims Alderweireld remains United’s priority target, although Jose Mourinho has identified Leicester City’s Harry Maguire as a potential alternative.

That’s because Tottenham aren’t budging on their £55 million valuation of Alderweireld. United must either pay that fee or allow Martial to move in the other direction – otherwise they will not be signing Alderweireld.

The Belgian impressed at the World Cup and many Spurs fans will be be hoping there is still a chance he will stick around beyond this summer.

  1. I don’t believe in strengthening one of your closest rival at any cost,if its a swap with toby and martial its even stevens.lIf we sell toby to man utd all we are doing is making them stronger.Sell him somewhere abroad or keep him till end of season,we might have to sell him for 25m but i would rather do that than help a rival team.
