Mauricio Pochettino says he doesn’t know if Tottenham will make “one, zero or two, three or four” signings before the transfer window closes on August 9th.

Spurs are yet to make a single signing this summer despite suggestions towards the end of last season that the club would change its approach to transfers in the current window.

Earlier this week, Tottenham executive director Donna-Maria Cullen claimed comments made by Pochettino in May, about taking more risks this summer, were taken out of context and may not have related to transfer business.

Now, Pochettino has hinted at the same thing and suggests Spurs could end the window with no new recruits whatsoever.

“Last season I told you [how many signings I expected] but this season we don’t know,” he said (via ESPN). “I don’t know if we are going to sign or not. We’re working on that. I cannot tell you if we’re going to sign one, zero or two, three or four. We’re working.

“It’s true that it’s so close, the [deadline] is so close, but the club’s doing everything to help the team and add some players, more quality.

“Of course we are going to compete with big sides and they are doing a lot of business. For us it’s still difficult to do. But in our mind it’s always to be competitive. We are going to play with 11 and try to be competitive and try to win every single game.”

Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish, although new ownership at the Championship club could prevent Spurs from signing the 22-year-old on the cheap.

Wilfried Zaha and Anthony Martial are also both said to be targets, but again their valuations could stop Tottenham from getting deals done.

Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele have been linked with exits. Both players are yet to return to the club after reaching the World Cup semi-finals with Belgium.

  1. Please Mr Poch can you just keep quiet about the transfers because all the players that you and Mr Levy have mentioned just became dust.

  2. All the other teams bar Burnley have strengthened by buying players all this excuses and rubbish coming out of Spurs he’s just that rubbish they knew when the window was closing it has stopped the other team buying players I would like to know why can’t we Daniel but when it comes to watching Tottenham you want us fans to pay the highest price per game I don’t think so you invest in football and not just property maybe I will invest my hard earned money
