Barcelona will be without key defender Samuel Umtiti when they face Tottenham in the Champions League next month after the Frenchman was sent off against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday.

Spurs suffered a 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan at the San Siro in their Champions League opener despite leading with just four minutes of the game remaining, while Barcelona ran out 4-0 winners over PSV thanks to a Lionel Messi hat-trick.

However, Umtiti received a red card in the 79th minute and will now miss Barcelona’s trip to Wembley on October 3rd.

The former Lyon centre-back scored a stunning goal against Tottenham in the Europa League in 2013.

His absence is good news for Sours, who will be desperate to avoid another defeat in Europe to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side reached the Round of 16 last in the Champions League last season only to lose 4-3 on aggregate to Italian champions Juventus.

With Tuesday’s result, Tottenham have now suffered three straight defeats for the first time under Pochettino, but the Londoners will have surely turned their form around by the time Barcelona arrive in the capital.
