Tottenham eventually reached the fourth round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night with a spot-kick victory over Watford in Milton Keynes.
Watford took the lead inside a minute of the second half through Isaac Success, who held off Serge Aurier to finish past Paulo Gazzaniga.
But Spurs turned the game on its head in the final ten minutes. Dele Alli was fouled in the box and stepped up to slot home a penalty on his return to MK Dons.
And five minutes from the end, Erik Lamela was sent through by Mousa Dembele to finish past former Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.
There was more drama to come when Etienne Capoue’s shot took a deflection off Ben Davies in stoppage time, taking the game to penalties.
Thankfully, Gazzaniga saved two spot-kicks – including one from Capoue – and Alli was on hand to seal the win for Spurs.
