Tottenham have shown an interest in signing Sampdoria defender Joachim Andersen, according to reports in Italy.

The 22-year-old centre-back joined Sampdoria from FC Twente last year and has since emerged as one of the most promising young defenders in Serie A.

According to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Spurs have sent scouts to watch Andersen a couple of times already this season and are keen on making a move.

Andersen has represented Denmark at every youth level but is yet to join Christian Eriksen in the senior team.

Tottenham already have a number of options at centre-back but the long-term future of Toby Alderweireld, who was expected to leave in the summer, is still a questionable.

Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen performed well last season, while Eric Dier can drop into the back-line and Juan Foyth is one for the future.

With all of that in mind, a move for Andersen in the January transfer window is unlikely, but Spurs’ interest could intensify next summer depending on Alderweireld’s situation.
