Jermain Defoe has revealed Gareth Bale “didn’t train everyday” towards the end of his Tottenham career, and Andre Villas-Boas didn’t seem to care.
Defoe was taking part in Soccer AM’s ‘Teammates 2.0’ series in which players answer questions about their teammates.
There’s loads of Spurs-related stuff in there and the whole video is certainly worth your time, but Defoe’s “Biggest Diva” pick was definitely the most interesting.
The striker said Bale would save himself for matches by sitting out training the day before games, seemingly receiving special treatment from Villas-Boas.
In fairness to Bale he has always struggled with injuries, and the period in question was by far his best spell for the club.
