Mauricio Pochettino said he “doesn’t follow the media much” when asked about the latest speculation linking him with Real Madrid.

Julen Lopetegui is facing mounting pressure at Madrid after a poor start to the season. The result of this weekend’s La Liga derby against Barcelona could decide the Spaniard’s fate.

A number of names are being linked with the potential vacancy at the Bernabeu, and the Sun claims Pochettino is chief among Madrid’s targets.

The Tottenham manager was heavily linked with the post in the summer when Zinedine Zidane unexpectedly resigned, but Madrid appointed Lopetegui instead.

In his press conference ahead of Monday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City, Pochettino was asked about the latest rumours.

And it’s safe to say the Argentinian was in deflection mode.

“My English is not so good – I don’t follow the media so much,” Pochettino said (via @Dan_KP).

“Sometimes [assistant manager] Jesus [Perez] explains something. I’m not so much involved in social media – Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, nothing. I don’t receive information.”

Pochettino signed a new five-year contract with Spurs in the summer and has repeatedly spoken of his intention to see through the current project in north London.

That doesn’t guarantee he will stay at Tottenham for a long time, but it does suggest he will remain in charge until the end of this season at least.
