Tottenham fear Mousa Dembele has damaged his ankle ligaments after the midfielder limped off against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, according to reports in Belgium.
Dembele twisted his ankle within five minutes of the trip to Wolves. He was replaced by Heung-Min Son, who played a crucial part in the first two goals before being substituted himself in the second half.
Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko did well in midfield as Tottenham held on to secure a 3-2 win at Molyneux, despite some questionable defending from Kieran Trippier and Juan Foyth’s double penalty nightmare.
If reports in Belgium are to be believed, Winks could now be set for a long run in the team with Dembele likely to spend some time on the treatment table.
According to Belgian outlet HLN (via Sport Witness), Dembele’s ankle problem is “presumably the ligaments,’ and Spurs “fear the worst” for the 31-year-old.
There are still suggestions Dembele could leave the club in the January transfer window. His contract expires next summer and Tottenham may want to cash in instead of losing him for nothing – but his injury could make a move impossible.
