Tottenham are interested in signing Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng, according to reports.

Boateng, who made 24 appearances for Manchester City between 2010-2011, was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United over the summer.

It appeared United were set to sign either Boateng or Spurs centre-back Toby Alderweireld, but deals for both players failed to materialise.

Alderweireld is out of contract at the end of the season. Tottenham have the option to extend his deal by a year, but that would trigger a £25 million release clause that can be met in the final two weeks of the next summer transfer window.

If Spurs lose Alderweireld, Transfer Market Web believes the Londoners could move for Boateng.

The 30-year-old has made over 250 appearances for Bayern but has played no more than 31 times per campaign across all competitions over the last three seasons.

While he remains a good defender, Tottenham are more likely to pursue a younger player; they have been linked with Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake and Ajax’s Matthhijs de Ligt.
