Moussa Sissoko has said his Tottenham teammate Harry Winks reminds him of Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard.

Winks has emerged as a key player for Spurs and England over recent months, and the midfielder’s importance to his club has only risen since Mousa Dembele damaged ankle ligaments.

Meanwhile, Sissoko finally appears to have found his feet at Tottenham, playing well in a number of roles in recent victories.

After being recalled to the France national team, Sissoko has been gushing about Winks.

“At our club there is little Harry Winks. He is a very good player who reminds me of Steven Gerrard. I think he has the same profile,” Sissoko told Foot Mercato (via football.london).

“It is evolving. From day to day, we see him evolve, progress. He is confident. He is even in the England team so it proves that he is a quality player.

“He is the young player of the club that will explode in the years to come.”

While they have played together fairly often so far this season, Winks and Sissoko don’t make up the perfect midfield partnership.

That said, they have worked effectively in a midfield three with support from the likes of Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama.

Winks is still being intermittently rested after he missed long spells of last season with a chronic ankle problem.

As one of the only fully fit midfielders in the squad, Sissoko is now being used regularly by Mauricio Pochettino and is beginning to do a fine job.
