Southampton could be without five first-team players for Wednesday’s Premier League meeting with Tottenham, interim manager Kelvin Davis has confirmed.
The Saints parted ways with Mark Hughes on Monday. Davis has been put in temporary charge for the Spurs game as the club searches for a permanent replacement for Hughes.
A trip to Wembley isn’t the ideal game for Southampton, who have won just once in the Premier League so far this season.
And the visitors are facing a selection crisis with five first-team players unlikely to face Spurs.
As per Read Southampton, Davis confirmed on Monday that Michael Obafemi, Danny Ings, Matt Targett and Ryan Bertrand are all doubts for Wednesday’s game, while the suspended Mario Lamina definitely won’t play.
It’s difficult to see the south coast side getting anything at Tottenham, who will be desperate to bounce back from Sunday’s north London derby defeat at Arsenal.
Spurs can move back above their neighbours with a win depending on the Gunners’ result against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
