Mauricio Pochettino has revealed Tottenham’s chief scout Steve Hitchen attended Sunday’s Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton.

Liverpool ran out 1-0 winners at Everton thanks to Divock Origi’s stoppage time winner after Jordan Pickford’s bizarre mistake.

Hitchen was in attendance, Pochettino has admitted, but the Spurs boss says he was only there for pleasure – not to keep tabs on any potential targets (via @BenPearceSpurs).

The match took place immediately after Tottenham’s 4-2 defeat to Arsenal in the north London derby at the Emirates.

Spurs failed to make a single singing over the summer, a topic that has repeatedly come back around after ever negative result so far this season.

Pochettino has a relatively strong squad at his disposal, but there are clear gaps and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the Londoners move for new recruits in January.

The club had reportedly been looking at Everton midfielder Andre Gomes, who is on loan from Barcelona, before he joined the Toffees over the summer.
