Sam Allardyce tells Mauricio Pochettino to make specific demand to Daniel Levy – is he right?

Sam Allardyce thinks Mauricio Pochettino should demand Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy ensures the team plays at Wembley for the rest of the season.

Spurs were scheduled to move into their new White Hart Lane-based stadium in mid-September, but numerous delays have seen the official moving-in date repeatedly pushed back.

Earlier this week, the club confirmed the Premier League meeting with Manchester United – scheduled for January 13 – will take place at Wembley, where Tottenham have been playing their ‘home’ games since the beginning of last season.

And Allardyce, who has been out of work since leaving Everton at the end of last term, has urged Pochettino to make demands about staying at the national stadium for the remainder of the current campaign.

“If I was Mauricio, and I’m not of course, I would say to Daniel Levy: ‘I do not want to move from Wembley ‘til next season’,” Allardyce told talkSPORT (via the London Evening Standard).

“You walk straight into another new stadium and, while it is on the same piece of land, it is all brand new. The familiarity is missing, Spurs suffered badly first and foremost when they started playing at Wembley now they have come to terms with it and are playing a lot better.

“They go to Tottenham, they face the same problems with the surroundings again, players not familiar with them, and could well suffer heavily just because of that.

“I think that Mauricio has to be strong and say to Daniel Levy: ‘I want to stay at Wembley, the team is going well, you didn’t buy me any players in the summer please allow me to…’.

“All that Daniel wants to do is start recouping some money for the outstanding cost of that stadium.”

Spurs have lost three matches at Wembley so far this season, falling to defeats against Liverpool, Manchester City and Barcelona.

The Londoners secured their place in the Champions League knockout stages with a memorable draw against Barcelona on Tuesday night, and there is a chance the home leg of their Round of 16 tie will take place at the new stadium.
