Danny Rose has said Arsenal’s celebrations following the Premier League north London derby earlier this month motivated Tottenham to win at the Emirates in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Arsenal ran out 4-2 winners in the first league meeting between the sides just over two weeks ago, provoking plenty of bragging on social media from Unai Emery’s players.

The likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Sead Kolasinac, Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette all appeared to mock their Spurs counterparts in the aftermath of Arsenal’s victory.

And Rose has revealed the Gunners’ celebrations provided Tottenham will all the motivation they needed to get revenge on their fierce rivals on Wednesday.

“We were fully relishing the opportunity,” Rose said (via the London Evening Standard).

“Our only motivation was remembering the nonsense that Arsenal posted after the game a few weeks ago. That was our motivation. Players that have only played 10 games for Arsenal were getting ahead of themselves. We used that in a positive way. It’s karma. They fully deserve what they got.

“We had the motivation of getting to the semi-final, so we’re over the moon. But the cherry on top was silencing them after remembering how they celebrated like they had won the league. We’ve put that result right. We’ll see where they are come the end of the season and we’ll see where we are.”

Since winning the Premier League north London derby, Arsenal have had their 22-game unbeaten run ended, slipped back to five points behind Spurs in the table and been knocked out of the EFL Cup.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have reached the last 16 of the Champions League, won three Premier League matches on the bounce and progressed to the EFL Cup semi-finals.

Tottenham face Everton at Goodison Park this weekend.
