Tottenham are monitoring the situation of Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Matt Doherty, according to the Mirror.

Doherty, a Republic of Ireland international, has made 21 Premier League appearances as a right wing-back so far this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists.

The Mirror claims Wolves are set to offer the 26-year-old a new contract to ward off interest from Spurs.

But the Londoners will continue to keep an eye on Doherty just in case he decides against extending his stay in the Midlands.

Super agent Jorge Mendes is believed to have taken control of the negotiations – whether that increases or decreases Doherty’s chances of staying at Wolves remains to be seen.

Doherty’s current contract expires in the summer of 2021 and he isn’t thought to be eager to leave Molyneux.

Tottenham aren’t exactly desperate for a new right-back. They already have three players – Kieran Trippier, Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters – battling to play on the right side of the back line.

We can only see Spurs moving for Doherty if one of those three players leaves in the summer.
