Tottenham are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl, according to reports in Germany.
Weigl has made just nine appearances across all competitions so far this season and is said to be unhappy with being a substitute.
According to German outlet Sport Bild, Weigl’s situation is attracting interest from Spurs, Paris Saint-Germain and AS Roma.
Dortmund manager Lucien Favre doesn’t want the 23-year-old to leave, but there is a suggestion the Bundesliga leaders may be forced to let him go next summer.
Tottenham are in need of a new central midfielder with Mousa Dembele all set to seal a move to the Chinese Super League.
Mauricio Pochettino has mostly selected a midfield three of Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Christian Eriksen this season, which has succeeded more often than not.
However, against Chelsea in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, Spurs lacked control in midfield, highlighting the need for a more commanding player in the middle of the park.
It doesn’t look like Weigl will be on the move in January, but Pochettino would be wise to look at alternatives this month.
