Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said speculation linking Mauricio Pochettino with the permanent Manchester United job makes sense.

Solskjaer was appointed interim manager at Old Trafford until the end of the season after Jose Mourinho was sacked last month.

Following Mourinho’s exit, Pochettino was heavily linked with the long-term post. Such was the intensity of the rumours, Tottenham banned any talk of Manchester United in Pochettino’s press conferences.

Since Solskjaer took charge, Manchester United have won every match they’ve played. But they face their biggest test yet with a Premier League trip to Spurs on Sunday.

Ahead of the Wembley clash, Solksjaer heaped praise on Pochettino, hinting the Argentinian has the credentials to become Manchester United’s new permanent coach.

“He has done a very good job,”Β Solskjaer said during a press conference in Dubai (via Sky Sports). “That speculation is there for a reason because he has done well.”

Tottenham won 3-0 at Old Trafford back in August thanks to Harry Kane’s header and a Lucas Moura brace, a result that contributed towards Mourinho’s sacking.

Manchester United beat Spurs 2-1 at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final in April, so Pochettino and his players will be seeking revenge on Sunday.
