Harry Kane has been ruled out of action until early March after Tottenham confirmed he has suffered ligament damage in his left ankle.

The striker limped off after the final whistle in Sunday’s Premier League defeat to Manchester United at Wembley following a heavy challenge in the closing stages.

Spurs were forced to wait until swelling went down before scans could take place, but preliminary assessments were eventually carried out on Tuesday.

The Londoners broke the news on Tuesday afternoon via Twitter, revealing Kane will return to training in early March.

It means the 25-year-old will miss the EFL Cup semi-final against Chelsea and, potentially, the final, as well as a Premier League north London derby against Arsenal and the Champions League last 16 clash with Borussia Dortmund.

The injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for Tottenham, who will also be without Son Heung-min in upcoming matches – the South Korean is currently competing for his country at the Asian Cup.

It’s safe to say Spurs fans were unhappy with the update on social media. Here are some of the most notable reactions from Twitter.

  1. Yep same old story . Our main striker injured. No one will come in as usual. Been a spurs fan all my life. We will go all spursy again. Won’t win nothing no champions league no decent striker to replace Kane .
