Tottenham have moved ahead of Barcelona in the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to reports in Spain.

Earlier this week, Barcelona announced a deal for Ajax starlet Frenkie de Jong, leading to suggestions the Catalan giants are no longer in need of Rabiot.

Reports then began to claim Spurs are planning on making an official move for Rabiot, with Mauricio Pochettino set to make contact with the 23-year-old personally.

And now, Spanish outlet Sport (via Sport Witness) believes Tottenham have indeed taken the lead in the race for Rabiot.

The Frenchman is set to leave PSG either this month or in the summer having failed to agree terms on a new deal with the Ligue 1 champions.

Spurs are desperate for a new central midfielder after Mousa Dembele left for the Chinese Super League and Moussa Sissoko limped off with another injury against Chelsea on Thursday night.

Rabiot would be a huge coup for Tottenham. The only reason he isn’t currently getting in PSG’s team is because of his contract situation.
