Real Madrid have ended their interest in Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen, according to reports in Spain.
Eriksen is out of contract at the end of next season and is said to be stalling on a new deal, resulting in plenty of speculation about a possible move to Real Madrid this summer.
However, Spanish outlet AS claims Madrid are no longer pursuing the Dane as they do not want to tarnish their ties with Spurs.
It’s somewhat difficult to believe there is any kind of special relationship between Tottenham and Madrid, who have done business over Luka Modric and Gareth Bale in the past.
Other than large fees, Tottenham have received nothing in return from Madrid and it would be strange for the European champions to end their pursuit of Eriksen for those reasons.
The report also mentions Madrid have made Chelsea contract rebel Eden Hazard their number one target, which is a more viable reason the Spanish giants are no longer keen on Eriksen.
Until the 26-year-old signs a new contract with Spurs, speculation will continue to come and go, so the Londoners aren’t out of the woods yet.
