Tottenham have made an enquiry for Monaco star Youri Tielemans, according to reports in the player’s native Belgium.
Tielemans has been heavily linked with a move to Leicester City this week. Reliable Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur claims the Foxes are the only realistic option for the midfielder at the moment – a loan swap deal involving Adrien Silva is being mooted.
But Terreur has since provided another update. Via Belgian outlet HLN, Terreur believes Spurs have also made an enquiry for Tielemans, although the Londoners are yet to make an official offer.
Tottenham are said to be on the lookout for a central midfielder following Mousa Dembele’s exit. Tielemans would be a suitable replacement, and it makes sense that the 21-year-old would want out of Monaco.
The Ligue 1 side are currently in the relegation zone, meaning Tielemans won’t be playing European football next season. Spurs will be able to offer him that; it’s very likely Leicester won’t.
Mauricio Pochettino has said Tottenham are open to making signings before Thursday’s deadline but no deals are close at this moment in time. It will be interesting to see if there are any developments with Tielemans in the next 24 hours.
