Tottenham have been scouting Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter ahead of a possible summer move, according to Sky Sports.

Ginter, who joined Monchengladbach from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017, has made 15 Bundesliga appearances at centre-back so far this season, scoring one goal.

Sky Sports claims the 25-year-old was of interest to Spurs before he signed for Monchengladbach and is now back on their radar.

It is believed Tottenham and Arsenal are interested in signing a new centre-back this summer with Ginter said to be on the shortlist of both clubs.

Spurs are likely to be in need of a new centre-back for next season if Toby Alderweireld leaves as expected.

Alderweireld will be allowed to depart for £25 million in the summer transfer window after a release clause in his contract was activated.

The Londoners haven’t signed any players since the arrival of Lucas Moura from Paris Saint-Germain in January last year.

Ginter has made 23 appearances for the Germany international including six games in 2018.

Juan Foyth is developing well and could turn out to be the ideal Alderweireld replacement, but Tottenham will also need reinforcements.
