Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with Sampdoria over a potential deal for defender Joachim Andersen, according to reports in Italy.

Andersen has made 24 appearances across all competitions so far this season, emerging as one of the most highly rated young defenders in Serie A.

Spurs were linked with a move for the 22-year-old last summer and in the recent January transfer window but nothing came of it.

However, if fresh reports are to be believed, Andersen could become a Tottenham player sooner rather than later.

Italian outlet Calcio Mercato (via the Mirror) claims Sampdoria representatives were in London on Wednesday to discuss a deal for the centre-back with Spurs.

It is believed Sampdoria value Andersen at around £22 million, which is a relatively low price in today’s market – Juventus and Inter Milan are also said to be interested.

Tottenham could be in need of a new centre-back this summer with Toby Alderweireld expected to leave after activating a £25 million release clause in his contract.

Juan Foyth is more than capable of becoming more of a regular if Alderweireld does depart, but Mauricio Pochettino will want to provide his defenders with more competition.
