Mauricio Pochettino has been handed a two-match touchline ban and fined £10,000 following an altercation with referee Mike Dean.

The incident took place after the final whistle of Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat at Burnley last month. Pochettino appeared to take issue with the decision to award Burnley a corner, which led to the hosts’ first goal.

Immediately after the game, Pochettino angrily confronted Dean and appeared to be provoked by something the referee said back to him.

BBC Sport has now confirmed the Spurs boss has been fined £10,000 and will be in the stands for the next two Premier League fixtures, important away games at Southampton and Liverpool.

But is the punishment too harsh?

Pochettino publicly apologised to Dean in his press conference before Tottenham’s following match against Chelsea, insisting he would accept any punishment that came his way.

One wonders what the length of the touchline ban and the size of the fine Pochettino would have received had he not apologised.

Jesus Perez will likely be front and centre in the dugout at St Mary’s and Anfield. Hopefully Pochettino manages to communicate some instructions from the stands.

  1. If this had been Liverpool or ManU it would have been a slap on the wrist and don’t do it again, what punishment has Mike Dean got for his part in this? He was the cause of it with what he said to Poch. Another case lets kick the southerners.

  2. I Think that the standard of the referees has deteriorated during the past few years and not all the team get the same treatment. Dean was a total mess and that’s how the FA respond to a person who was giving his own opinion. Shame on you FA.

  3. of course it is , but remember this is spurs, the fa always seems to take it out on us. remember all the advantages and bias decision that when leicester city stole the league title.jurgen klopp getting away with two infringements this season and getting a slap on the wrist. so i,am not surprised just disappointed yet again ,that theres one rule some and not others. so stuff the fa and prove yet again that when we get screwed over by the fa . we find a way to get the job don. come on you spurs

  4. I have mention many time before no one in the FA wanted Spurs to win anything. Remember the last few PL games start with refeere Oliver, Dean n last game with Taylor all trying their best to get us losing the game. There is no way we will win anything if we r always playing against a 13 to 15 men team on the field. Can someone tell me why so many hate Spurs???
