Mauricio Pochettino is on Real Madrid’s summer shortlist of managerial targets, according to the Independent.

The report claims Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is Madrid’s number one target, followed by Pochettino and Juventus coach Max Allegri.

Pochettino was heavily linked with the post when Zinedine Zidane surprisingly resigned last summer.

Zidane had won three Champions League titles with Madrid but his sudden exit saw Tottenham fans beginning to worry about their manager’s future.

Madrid hired Julen Lopetegui instead. He was replaced by Santiago Solari just a few months into the season, but the current man in charge is expected to leave soon.

The European champions have been dumped out of the Champions League, the Copa del Rey and the La Liga title race in the last week, losing twice at home to fierce rivals Barcelona.

The Independent claims Madrid have been impressed with the excitement Klopp has brought to Liverpool.

Spurs supporters will be hoping they continue to be impressed by the German so that Pochettino stays in north London.

Jose Mourinho has also been linked with a return to the Spanish capital.

  1. Nothing new about Real Madrid’s supposed interest in Pochettino. The nonces in the British press have just added two more suspects to the story, no imagination needed.
Their counterparts in Spain have dreamt up PSG as another club that Pochettino would leave Spurs for. They’ve regurgitated Pochettino’s supposed friendship with that clubs owner. The same shit will be written at the end of next season ie: who will replace Real Madrid’s out going manager and Pochettinos position at Spurs.

    • Too true. Anyone see the excellent article in the Daily Telegraph today by Sam Wallace, about the parlous state of finances at RealMad? They bought their success on debt and allowed Perez to build in protection from competition for his role as President. Lunatic in charge of an Asylum. RealMad expect instant success not a long term project. But they no longer have the funds to buy the players.

Nice to read some real journalism not regurgitated, reheated paella.

  2. any manager that goes to Real Madrid is taking a big chance.
Coaching Madrid must be 100% accurate. Coach had 90% accuracy was given the sack.
If I was the President he should buy his trophies
