Real Madrid have made an enquiry about Paris Saint-Germain midfielder and alleged Tottenham Hotspur target Giovani Lo Celso, according to reports in Spain.
Earlier this week, we relayed reports suggesting Spurs have been monitoring the progress of Lo Celso, who is currently on loan at Real Betis.
The 22-year-old has scored 12 goals and provided four assists in 36 appearances across all competitions this season.
But Tottenham’s chances of landing Lo Celso have taken a major blow if Spanish outlet Marca is to be believed.
They claim Real Madrid have made an enquiry to Real Betis about the Argentinian ahead of a possible summer move.
The reason Madrid have enquired to Betis and not Lo Celso’s parent club, PSG, is that Betis have apparently already decided to exercise a €25 million purchase option.
It is believed Betis will sign Lo Celso permanently this summer but will then be willing to listen to offers of around €60 million.
That means Spurs will have to break their transfer record on top of fighting off competition from Real Madrid to sign Lo Celso – it’s looking unlikely.
