Tottenham Hotspur are likely to sell Toby Alderweireld to Manchester United this summer, according to the Mirror.

Alderweireld recently signed a one-year contract extension with Spurs, meaning his current deal expires at the end of next season.

However, signing the extension activated a £26 million release clause that can be triggered in the final two weeks of this summer’s transfer window.

As a result, an exit is expected at the end of the season. And the Mirror believes Manchester United are in pole position to swoop for the Belgian.

The report claims Spurs are resigned to losing Alderweireld to United, who allegedly attempted to sign the centre-back last summer but failed.

Barcelona and Juventus are also said to be interested. Regardless, it looks like Alderweireld will almost certainly be leaving Tottenham.

The Mirror goes on to suggest United will listen to offers for Eric Bailly if they sign Alderweireld.

Bailly has been linked with Spurs in the past and there is a possibility the Londoners will attempt to include the Ivorian as part of a deal for Alderweireld.

Should Tottenham have tried harder to keep Alderweireld? Or was the situation out of the club’s hands? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
