However, Alderweireld had put in an excellent display up until that point, and his own goal was desperately unfortunate.
Virgil van Dijk rightly received plenty of praise for his defending for Moussa Sissoko’s chance to win the game for Spurs, but Alderweireld produced a similarly world-class moment earlier in the match.
