Tottenham Hotspur could launch an ambitious move for Gareth Bale this summer, according to reports in Spain.

The former Spurs forward has endured a difficult season at Real Madrid and could return to the Premier League for the 2019/20 campaign.

Bale has been linked with Tottenham a number of times since leaving the club in 2013. Manchester United are also often mooted as a possible destination.

And Spanish outlet Marca believes Spurs and United – as well as Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich – are the only clubs interested in signing Bale this summer.

The report suggests Tottenham may opt against a move for the Welshman because of their expensive new stadium and the fact they already have plenty of options up front.

However, it is believed Bale has fond memories of his time at Spurs and doesn’t see a return as a major step down because of the club’s progress in recent years.

Champions League qualification is obviously a must if Tottenham want to convince Bale to return.

They may also have to break the bank in terms of wages, which is difficult to see happening – but Spurs fans will be hopeful.
