Danny Rose says Tottenham Hotspur were inspired by Liverpool as the Londoners completed an extraordinary comeback on Wednesday to reach the Champions League final.
Liverpool came from three goals down to knock out Barcelona at Anfield the night before Spurs went into their second leg trailing by a goal.
Ajax took a 2-0 first half lead in Amsterdam thanks to a Matthijs de Ligt header and a brilliant Hakim Ziyech strike.
But Tottenham were transformed after the break, with Lucas Moura scoring twice in the space of four minutes to keep the visitors’ hopes alive.
It looked as if Mauricio Pochettino’s side had left it too late, but Lucas somehow scored again in the fifth minute of stoppage time to send Spurs through.
Being interviewed on the pitch after the final whistle, Rose revealed Pochettino mentioned Liverpool’s turnaround before the match.
“We saw Liverpool last night,” Rose said (via Metro).
“It goes to show it’s not over until it’s over. Disappointed with the first leg how we started and we started like that tonight. But after the break we came out.
“The gaffer mentioned Liverpool’s display at the hotel before the match, the gaffer doesn’t mind us losing but we have to lose the right way.
“We’re lucky we’ve gone through and we look forward to the Champions League final.”
Rose played a key role in the third goal, nutmegging De Ligt before moving the ball on.
It’s safe to say Lucas’ 95th minute strike will live long in the memory of every Spurs fan.
How can Rose have played a vital role for the 3rd goal when he was not even on the pitch having been replaced by Davies?
Mind you, I made him Man of the Match.A fully fit Danny Rose is in my opinion the best left wing back in the Premiership.Hopefully he can stay clear of injuries in the coming times.
We all love you Danny Boy!
