Jose Mourinho has suggested winning the Champions League final could spark a trophy spree at Tottenham.

Spurs face Liverpool in Madrid on June 1st aiming to win their first trophy since lifting the League Cup in 2007/08.

Winning the Champions League will also bring Mauricio Pochettino the first piece of silverware of his career.

Mourinho’s Manchester United thwarted Tottenham’s bid for FA Cup success last season by beating the Londoners in the semi-final at Wembley.

But the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss has tipped Spurs to carry on winning trophies if they beat Liverpool in the Champions League final.

“Spurs is not winning titles and to win the first one, the biggest one of all, would be, of course, fantastic and would mean to win other domestic trophies [is easier] because the Champions League is the biggest one of all,” Mourinho told Sky Sports (via the Guardian).

“I think, big match, of course, with huge levels of pressure. We used to say finals are not to play, finals are to win.”

Mourinho also thinks it will be difficult for Jurgen Klopp if he loses a third Champions League final of his career.

He added: “Being a manager and understanding what it means for a manager to play a Champions League final, there is always a negative side that one team is going to lose it.

“If Jurgen wins, it is an incredible achievement. If Jurgen doesn’t win … you know, to lose three Champions League finals has to be really, really hard. But in this moment, he is a positive guy and I think he just thinks about winning.”

The final is now just eight days away and Tottenham have received a couple of fitness boosts ahead of what is being described as one of the biggest games in the club’s history.

Both Harry Winks and Harry Kane are said to be back to full fitness, with both expected to play a part against Liverpool.
