Kieran Trippier’s proposed move to Napoli has fallen through because the Tottenham Hotspur defender is ‘too old’, according to the Sun.

For the last few weeks, Trippier has been heavily linked with a transfer to Napoli by the Italian media.

That speculation intensified when Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti admitted the right-back is currently being tracked by the Serie A club.

However, the Sun claims Napoli have now turned their attentions to younger targets after Trippier was deemed too old at the age of 28.

A source apparently told the newspaper: “We will be pursuing a right-back but will be going for a younger player, which is in line with the policy of the club.”

It is believed Napoli want to sign a player with better re-sale value than Trippier, who is unlikely to make a profit for any club that signs him now.

The report suggests Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is still attempting to get £40 million for Trippier if a sale goes through this summer.

It’s likely Tottenham will have to drastically lower that valuation if they want to move the former Burnley man on.

Trippier was cut from England’s Nations League squad this week and will be hoping for redemption in the Champions League final against Liverpool on Saturday.

  1. Is it the price of Trippier or age
I see Daniel Levy is at his old tricks by putting high prices on players that are never going to be bought at that price so he’s got an excuse not to have funds for Pochettino to spend
