Tottenham Hotspur have ended their interest in Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to the Daily Mail.
Earlier this week, we relayed reports suggesting West Ham United have made an £18 million bid for Gomes, who spent the season on loan at Everton.
Spurs have been linked with the Portugal international since the summer of 2017, a year after he left Valencia for Barcelona.
But the Mail claims Tottenham will now look elsewhere after pulling out of the race to sign Gomes.
The 25-year-old is now likely to be embroiled in a transfer tug of war between West Ham and Everton.
Spurs will apparently turn their attentions to Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.
The former Norwich City star is likely to be more expensive than Gomes, but he also arguably has the potential to be the better player of the two.
Maddison plays slightly further forward, meaning he would be a suitable replacement for Christian Eriksen if the Dane departs this summer.
Tottenham are believed to have put in a bid for Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, so it certainly seems like Mauricio Pochettino is keen to strengthen his midfield.
