Tottenham Hotspur remain in talks with Real Betis over a deal for Giovani Lo Celso, according to Sky Sports.

It is believed the midfielder is keen to join up with his countryman Mauricio Pochettino in north London.

Last month, we relayed a story claiming Tottenham had made an opening offer of around £53 million for Lo Celso.

Reports in France then suggested Spurs had only offered around £48.5 million, and Betis were said to be asking for closer to £61.75 million for the 23-year-old.

It’s unclear how far apart Tottenham and Betis are when it comes to Lo Celso’s price, but Sky Sports believes negotiations are continuing.

Lo Celso is apparently eager to sign for Spurs, who are hopeful of getting a deal done.

The Argentinian has a release clause of £88 million but it’s unlikely Tottenham will pay that much if a transfer is to happen.

That said, it looks like the Londoners will have to smash their transfer record in order to convince Betis to sell.

If things go smoothly, Lo Celso will become Spurs’ first signing since Lucas Moura’s arrival in January 2018.
