Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier may miss the rest of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after suffering an injury while playing for Ivory Coast.
Aurier missed long spells of last season with various injuries but returned to fitness towards the end of the campaign and has been captaining his country at the Afcon in Egypt.
However, the right-back caused alarm bells to ring when he limped off during Ivory Coast’s 1-0 defeat to Morocco on Friday.
And it seems Aurier’s tournament may be over if comments he made after the game are anything to go by.
“I think it may be over because I felt something. It may be a tear,” Aurier said (via Sky Sports).
It is unclear whether the 26-year-old’s injury will affect his participation in Spurs’ pre-season campaign, which is set to begin next month.
With Kieran Trippier reportedly being targeted by Napoli and Juventus, Aurier could end up being Tottenham’s first-choice right-back next season – if he isn’t sold himself.
In truth, Aurier hasn’t totally endeared himself to the club’s fans with his performances, and there have often been calls for Kyle Walker-Peters to be given game time ahead of him.

I did not know it was humanly possible to have so many serious injuries in one season. Such a sick note…
