Marcus Edwards has informed Tottenham he wants to leave the club permanently this month, according to Football Insider.
The 20-year-old has endured a turbulent last few years with Spurs. After being compared to Lionel Messi by Mauricio Pochettino, Edwards’ attitude came into question when it became increasingly clear he was getting no closer to the first team – despite his obvious talent.
Last season, the attacking midfielder scored three goals and provided five assists during a loan spell with Dutch side Excelsior. He was subsequently linked with a move to Championship club Brentford before the transfer window closed earlier this month, but a deal failed to materialise.
And now, Football Insider claims Edwards has told Tottenham he wants to leave for a foreign club. He could stay in England but only if he drops down to League One, something he is unlikely to want to do, according to the report.
Out of contract at the end of the season, Edwards will apparently depart on loan if a permanent switch can’t be sorted. He would then be able to leave on a free transfer at the end of the campaign.
It seems cutting ties would be the best thing for all parties at this stage. Edwards clearly isn’t in Pochettino’s plans, regardless of his ability and potential.

edwards absolutely should not leave. if you think he should you are deeply confused. he should go straight into the first team. he’s going to be just as good as sancho, alli, son etc. if he isn’t already. i’d rather poch leaves than edwards
i dont think Poch or anyone else will have anything against Edwards personally. He has just not developed as per early promise, and attitude to work rate has something to do with it. Let him go.

The Spurs is refusing to throw in the towel. I dont care about his attitude. The club has enough professionals to sit the young man down and talk to him, not drop lines in the press. And if he cannot be change why hold on to him. His value is not going up and his talent is going to get stagnated
They did the same to Carroll allowing him to leave when his promised had worn off

Bit of a stupid time to say he wants to leave considering the transfer window is shut. It’s just causing disruption if this is true.
Obviously the attitude of the player is questionable and maybe that’s the reason behind him not going further at the club.

Does it really matter in the end. He returned to the club at the end of season and they did nothing to address a 3 yrs old issue. He can still be loaned out even if it is to January. Spurs need to grant him his leave whether he has a bad attitude or not. You all are too sanctimonious and selfrighteous. Spurs should do the right thing. Let him fail elsewhere cause he is not going to make it here. If can not be sold terminate his contract cause you are paying him to be a malcontent.
