Tottenham midfielder Anthony Georgiou made his debut in senior English football – appearing as half-time substitute for Ipswich Town on Tuesday.
The Cypriot international, who has appeared just once for Spurs in their Champions League victory against APOEL back in 2017, only joined the League One outfit on Monday, but with the Tractor Boys trailing 1-0 to AFC Wimbledon at the break, manager Paul Lambert turned to his newest recruit.
And it paid off as two goals in the final 10 minutes, including a stoppage-time strike from Kayden Jackson earned Ipswich all three points and continued their unbeaten start to the campaign.
Georgiou will be hoping his second-half showing will be enough to see him handed a starting place when Lambert’s men travel to struggling Bolton on Saturday.
Elsewhere, George Marsh was an unused substitute as his Leyton Orient came back from 2-0 down to beat Mansfield Town and pick up their first away victory since returning to the EFL, whilst Jack Roles make his senior debut in professional football and played 90 minutes just hours after joining Cambridge United, as they beat Scunthorpe United to stay unbeaten.
Kazaiah Sterling’s Doncaster Rovers were not in action after their game at Bolton was postponed.
