Georges-Kevin Nkoudou’s three-year stay at Tottenham is finally over after the French midfielder signed for Turkish side Besiktas earlier today.
The 24-year-old, who joined from Marseille for £11m back in 2016, made just four starts in all competitions for Spurs, with none of those coming in the Premier League.
He did produce an excellent late cameo in 1-0 victory over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League back in the 2016/2017 group stage, before returning from the dead to provide a crucial assist for Harry Winks’ injury-time winner against Fulham back in January, but Nkoudou’s good moments at Spurs were not often enough, echoed by the fact he registered just one goal in 27 appearances in Tottenham colours.
Remarkably, after an impressive Audi Cup – and with Dele Alli, Heung Min Son and a host of others unavailable – Nkoudou was handed a rare Premier League appearance in the opening day victory over, but was then left out of the 18-man squad that drew with Manchester City the following weekend.
And moments before the 15-times Turkish champions confirmed the deal on social media, Nkoudou said his goodbyes on Twitter, thanking everyone connected with Tottenham.
His message below reads as follows:
“Dear Spurs fans, It’s now time for me to leave this great club that is Tottenham. Even though our story wasn’t the one I hoped for of when I arrived here, I still feel like I learned a lot, as a player and as a man.
“I’ve always tried to give my all for this team and this club, and wish all my teammates & the staff the very best for this season, and the followings.
“Also a big thank you to the fans who had my back and supported me through the times. Big hugs, GK.”
