Bayern Munich will be without experienced defender David Alaba when they face Tottenham in the Champions League next month.

Spurs get their European campaign underway against Olympiacos in Athens tomorrow, whilst Munich host Serbian side Red Star Belgrade in the German capital before their Group B clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 2 October.

Mauricio Pochettino will be without summer signing Giovani Lo Celso for the game in London, who suffered a hip problem on international duty with Argentina last week, and now Munich have suffered an injury blow themselves.

Speaking to AS ahead of their opener against Red Star tomorrow, Munich boss Niko Kovac revealed that the Austrian, who missed their draw with RB Leipzig on Saturday, is suffering from a thigh problem and is unlikely to be fit in time to face Pochettino’s men in the capital.

Kovac said: “David will be out for two, maximum three weeks. Obviously, David is a really important player for us. Unfortunately he’s going to be out for a couple of weeks but Lucas Hernandez won the World Cup in that position.

“He has a different interpretation of how to play at left-back than David does but he does a very good job.”
