Reported Tottenham target Bruno Fernandes has reiterated his desire to play in England but insists he is happy at Sporting Lisbon.
Fernandes was heavily linked with Spurs and Manchester United during the summer transfer window. The Londoners emerged as the favourites to get him as the deadline approached but ended up signing Giovani Lo Celso on loan from Real Betis instead – there is an obligation to buy the Argentinian next summer.
Tottenham could still lose Christian Eriksen in January. The Dane has entered the final year of his contract and doesn’t appear to be willing to sign a new deal. With that in mind, Spurs may be looking at potential replacements – and Fernandes will surely be on their list of targets.
It might not be a conincidence, then, that Fernandes is continuing to talk up a possible move to the Premier League. The Portugal international has already admitted he was close to joining Tottenham in the summer, and now he has expressed his wish to play in England once again.
“Of course I’m happy,” the 25-year-old told Portuguese outlet O Jogo (via Sport Witness). “I have the desire to play in England, this is the league I want to play in, there are other clubs from other countries and I have the ambition to get there, but when I came to Portugal I had the ambition to play at Sporting, in a great club, and I’m still delighted.”
