Eric Dier was in no mood to hide after Tottenham’s shock Carabao Cup defeat at the hands of League Two side Colchester United on Tuesday.
The England midfielder captained the side on his what was his first Spurs appearance since the final day of last season and one of Tottenham’s better performers on what proved to be a miserable night for the club.
But Dier’s display couldn’t prevent Spurs from slipping to their first defeat against a lower league side under Mauricio Pochettino as they lost 4-3 on penalties to the U’s.
Dier, who missed his last spot-kick in the semi-final defeat to Chelsea last January, wasn’t in the in the first five takers and could only watch on in horror as Christian Eriksen was denied before Lucas Moura crucially missed the target.
And after the game, Dier was heard spouting three brutal words.
“That was embarrassing,” he said.
You’re not wrong, Eric.
