Tottenham have made Leicester City midfielder their number one transfer target to replace Christian Eriksen, according to the Daily Mirror.

Eriksen, who has made an uninspiring start to the season, his performance in Spurs’ Premier League defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday was more evidence of that, looks almost certain to leave the club either in January or next summer.

The Dane, who has been booed by a small number of angry Tottenham fans this season, is out of contract in June, is free to speak to other clubs during January. And the Mirror are reporting that if Mauricio Pochettino’s do decide to cash in on Eriksen, they will turn their attention to Maddison, who would cost around £60million.

Tottenham need no introduction to the 22-year-old, who not only scored a fine late winner against Pochettino’s men last month, but has been one of the star men since making the step up to the Premier League from Norwich City at the beginning of last season.

Maddison added to his ever-growing reputation by scoring against league leaders Liverpool on Saturday, but if Spurs want to pull off this major coup, they’d have to fight off competition from Manchester United, who are also interested in Maddison’s signature.

  1. Because Spurs play in London at the worlds best stadium, have an illustrious history with a massive worldwide fan base. No contest.
